Sandbach Town Council cancels family event to mark 80th anniversary of Victory over Japan

Sandbach Town Council has cancelled a family event to mark the 80th VJ anniversary due to be held this Saturday (August 16th).
A big celebration was due to take place in Sandbach Park from 3 pm until 7 pm with music, stalls, games and children's activities with tickets costing £5 per person with under 2s free.
But the town council has cancelled this event and instead is urging people to attend a VJ memorial to be held on Friday (August 15th) on the Cobbles, starting at 8.00 p.m.
A spokesperson from Sandbach Town Council said: "Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the planned VJ Day Family Event on Saturday, 16th, in the park.
"We sincerely appreciate everyone who expressed interest and thank you for your understanding and continued support."

Events are taking place throughout Cheshire East and Cheshire East Council is inviting people to take part.
They said: "2025 marks the 80th anniversary of VJ Day, a moment to reflect on the end of World War II and honour the Second World War generation across the UK and Commonwealth.
"Join us in commemorating the 80th anniversary of VJ Day with a series of special events across Cheshire East. Share your events and support using hashtags #CelebratingCheshireEastVJDay across your social media platforms!
"There will also be a national two-minute silence at 12 noon.
