Town councillors are to discuss the future of the council's Chief Officer at their full council meeting next month.

Ceri Lloyd was appointed as the Council's Chief Officer in June 2022 following a short period as an interim Town Clerk during staff absences.

But Ceri has asked the town council to consider looking at the appointment of a full time and permanent Chief Officer and Responsible Finance Officer sooner rather than later.

The town council had asked Ceri to extend her contract until June next year but it is understood some 'complex challenges' have caused her current move.

The Chief Officer's role encompasses the duties of Council's Town Clerk and Responsible Finance Officer.

They are responsible for ensuring all aspects of the Council's operations, policies and procedures are working effectively.

Ceri told Sandbach Nub News: "I have not resigned from the Council at this stage. I have advised Council on a way forward with regard to the Chief Officer (and Responsible Finance Officer) post and it will be considered by Council on September 13th.

"In the meantime, it is business as usual and we are making progress on a number of fronts.

"I have no further comments to make at this point on this matter and await the Council's decision."

Several councillors have come forward in support of Ceri.

Cllr Tim Wheatcroft, a councillor for Sandbach Heath and East Ward said: "She is doing a great job and I have absolutely no issues with her. Historically, Sandbach Town Council has been difficult for town clerks."

Cllr Nicola Cook, both a town councillor and district councillor for Elworth, said: "Her professionalism and support to staff and councillors has shone through during her time at the Council

"What now happens at Sandbach Town Council, only time will tell."
