Sandbach United lose to the Silkmen in Macclesfield cup match

By Deborah Bowyer 30th Mar 2022

Sandbach United sadly lost to Macclesfield in the Macron Cup last night - but put up a good fight.

The Ramblers lost 2 – 1 to the Silkmen at Macclesfield with a crowd of 693 spectators, some of them having travelled from Sandbach to watch the match.

Substitute, Callum Evans, came on to score Sandbach's goal.

Sandbach United said on Social Media today: "Despite a strong fightback in the second half, our Macron Cup journey is over."

The Ramblers' manager, Declan Swan, told Nub News ahead of yesterday's match: "It's a great tie for Sandbach and the opportunity to play Macclesfield in the cup.

"We obviously know they have been successful this year and have gained promotion from the league above however we believe we have the team to cause the upset.

"We are certainly not going there just to make the numbers up."

Let's hope Sandbach get back to their winning ways – they have had a good run recently, including beating Abbey Hulton 6 – 0 last Saturday.
