A Sandbach woman has designs on success after launching a fashion business named after her two grandmothers.

Mum-of-two, Andrea Hunt, has always loved making her own clothes but it wasn't until lockdown that she took the plunge.

Andrea, who lives on the Abbeyfields estate, made a blanket then a kaftan and kimonos after her mum asked her to make one for her.

Now two years later, the 42-year-old has a business Violet & Gracious, specialising in handmade garments in beautiful fabrics.

It's named after Andrea's nan, Violet, who taught her to knit and crochet, and Grace, Andrea's other grandmother.

"I've always loved making my own clothes," said Andrea. "I get inspiration from all kinds of places – magazines and retro looks such as the 1990s."

Andrea has named a velour lounge suit 'Britney' after the singer Britney Spears while a floral wrap skirt is named 'Winnie Hydrangea' after a family member.

The fashion designer, who went to Sandbach High School and Sixth Form College, did a BTEC in art and design at Mid Cheshire College.

At the moment, her range is just for women but Andrea is hopefully to expand this soon to include male fashion.

"I'm hoping to include some unisex hoodies in the range. Hopefully the business will grow and grow."

Violet & Gracious has a Facebook page here and Instagram here as well as pages on Etsy and the site Folksy.
