Sandbach's new town crier is looking forward to attending a busy programme of events and it's partly thanks to Nub News.

Liverpudlian David Hypson read a story in Sandbach Nub News about the town's former town crier, Dennis Robinson, hanging up his bell after 42 years.

The community-minded former school governor decided to apply for the position and the rest is history.

"I read the story in Sandbach Nub News and decided to apply. I've always been very community minded," said David.

"We even cut our holiday to France short so we could attend the event to find a new town crier.

"I'm a big traditionalist and know how important this is for Sandbach. I want to help to promote the town and continue to put us on the map."

David served in the Royal Signals and is semi-retired, working at the Royal Liverpool Hospital for part of the week.

He and his wife moved to Sandbach to be nearer to their daughter, Libby, and love the town.

"I'm a helper at the 2nd Sandbach Rainbows and love getting involved in community things," added David.

"My plan is to bring as much as I can to this role. I would love to do as much as possible using social media too."

At the moment, a new town crier livery for David is in the pipeline, a costume which dates back to the 17th century and one which David is very much looking forward to wearing. Watch this space for more details!
