Sandbach's world-famous Foden's Band hopes to make a big splash with their latest CD

By Deborah Bowyer 1st Feb 2023

Sandbach's world famous Foden's brass band has released a new CD of their work – their 15th to date.

The band has won many awards over its 100 year plus history, including the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain 15 times and the British Open Championships 12 times.

And now Foden's has a new CD to its name, Seascape, featuring songs with a seafaring theme from James Cook, Circumnavigator to the Submergered Cathedral.

Mark Wilkinson, Foden's band manager said they are delighted with Seascape.

"It was recorded last year in Bolton and features a variation of brass band music from relaxing wave type to war and sea. It's mostly longer pieces," he said.

The launch comes hot on the heels of news that Foden's, who practise at Bradwall Village Hall on the outskirts of Sandbach, are about to open a heritage visitor centre detailing their rich history.

The band has also created a heritage' website to celebrate over 100 years of rich and diverse history of the Foden's Band, a period during which the band has maintained their position as one of the world's leading ensembles.

Foden's secured Heritage Lottery funding which has enabled them to set up a mini-museum at their Bradwall rehearsal base and a heritage website.

A Foden's spokesperson said: "The new centre contains within it the archived programmes, photos, instruments, uniforms and other items of interest from the band's formation up to 2023.

"Foden's Heritage looks forward to welcoming visitors to the centre soon, with visiting hours to be announced."
