Council confirms major nearby road will reopen this month following number of setbacks
Cheshire East Council has confirmed a major Crewe road will reopen this month - following a number of setbacks.
Middlewich Road (A530), has been closed between Pyms Lane and Smithy Lane since May 2022 - all for the North West Crewe Package (NWCP) scheme.
The road was initially targeted to be reopened at the end of October.
In September, United Utilities discovered original pipework installed below the ground of the major road, was not as recorded.
A new rescheduled date for the road to reopen was set to January 2023.
Then, due to 'freezing' weather conditions, this was pushed back further to February 2023.
On Wednesday (February 1), Cheshire East Council confirmed A530 Middlewich Road would reopen this month.
A spokesperson told Nub News: "We remain on track to open the southern section of the A530 in February.
"We will provide an exact date in due course."
The A530 is expected to reopen in mid-February.
Construction of the NWCP scheme will then move towards the top of Flowers Lane.
Crewe councillors have been reassured contractors will do all they can to minimise disruption.
Cheshire East is keeping residents up to date through a monthly newsletter dedicated to works on the North West Crewe Package scheme.
You can sign up to this HERE. Cheshire East Council says it will continue to keep the latest information for the project on dedicated web pages.
