A Sandbach 'superhero' is to be honoured tomorrow (Saturday) at an annual event held in his memory.

Seven-year-old Patryk Milner collapsed in his classroom at Offley Primary Academy in 2020 and despite CPR, the use of a defibrillator and an air ambulance he passed away two days later.

His parents, Andy and Aggie Milner, set up The Patryk Milner Memorial Fund to fund junior sports development, local school coaching and holiday camp places for children.

Once a year, rugby players and friends run 4km every four hours for 48 hours raising money for the fund here which has helped build a new running path - "Patryk's Path" - around the club along with funding free sports places for children.

Patryk was a fan of Marvel characters and Captain America and Sandbach Rugby Club's first team players will be wearing special 'superhero' shirts for their game tomorrow which will be auctioned off afterwards to raise money for Sandbach CRY.

Friends of Sandbach Rugby Club and supporters of CRY will be at the memorial lunch in honour of Patryk before the first team game.

Patryk's mum, Aggie, said: "It's our way of helping others. It's making good out of something bad. We can't bring him back but we can help other children."

Sandbach CRY raise funds for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), a UK charity dedicated to preventing young sudden cardiac deaths through awareness, medical research, and free clinical heart screenings.

Andy and Aggie run Symphony Hospitality Catering based at Sandbach Rugby Club in Bradwall Road and on Saturday will be cooking the lunch for the event - a hotpot buffet with red cabbage and cheese boards.

Andy said: "Patryk is always in our hearts and this is our way of doing something to help. He loved Captain America and Marvel characters so some of us are dressing up as Superheroes.

"We're delighted with the support and hard work of everyone involved. It touches our hearts and we're so grateful."

At Saturday's event, each rugby shirt will be auctioned off and the money raised will be donated to Sandbach CRY. A new play area added to Patryk's Path will also be opened.

A golf day held at Sandbach Golf Club last month raised around £2,300 for The Patryk Milner Memorial Fund.
