Residents living on a busy road in Sandbach are having a quiet week after the water company closed the road to repair a sewer.

United Utilities closed Abbey Road to traffic earlier this week and say it will remain closed until the end of the week.

A spokesperson for United Utilities said: "There's a temporary road closure in place at Abbey Road in Sandbach to ensure our engineers can work safely while they repair a sewer.

"We're working as fast as we can to get the job finished by the end of this week as planned."

The work is being done at the bottom end of the road and diversions for motorists are in place.

Residents living in Abbey Road can access their properties from the top end of the road.
