A Sandbach primary school which received an 'inadequate' Ofsted report earlier this year and had been working with a 'detailed improvement' plan is starting a new chapter.

St John's Church of England Primary School in Sandbach Heath has a new headteacher and becomes part of the North West Academies Trust (NWAT) on New Year's day (January 1st).

Sandbach Nub News revealed here how education bosses at Cheshire East Council said they are working with the interim headteacher and all those involved after the 'inadequate' Ofsted report.

Now education bosses have revealed the school will officially become part of the North West Academies Trust (NWAT), a highly respected organisation recognised for its commitment to academic excellence and student well-being, from the New Year.

A spokesperson said: " This exciting development has been made possible through a collaborative partnership with the Department for Education (DfE), Cheshire East Council, and the Diocesan Board of Education.

"Joining NWAT marks a significant milestone for St John's CE Primary, bringing enhanced opportunities for growth and development under the guidance of a trust renowned for its success in nurturing thriving school communities. "

At the same time, a new headteacher has been appointed - Ricky Huddart - from January 2025.

A spokesperson said: "Mr Huddart is an experienced and passionate leader with a proven track record in delivering exceptional educational outcomes.

"His values and vision align closely with those of St John's CE Primary, and he is committed to leading the school into a bright and successful future."

The school will also be supported by Mrs Julie Clayton as Executive Headteacher.

A spokesperson said: "Mrs Clayton is currently the headteacher at The Delamere CE Academy, which is consistently ranked among the highest-performing Church schools in the country and has recently been inspected as an outstanding school, receiving an exceptional report."

Steve Docking OBE, CEO of North West Academies Trust, said: "We are thrilled to welcome St John's CE Primary to the NWAT family.

"The school has a strong foundation, and with the support of the trust, we are confident it will continue to flourish.

"Mr Huddart's leadership will be pivotal in driving progress and ensuring every child at St John's achieves their full potential. This marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the school, and we are proud to be part of its journey."

Mr Huddart was deputy headteacher at Delamere Academy in Cheshire — recently announced as North West Primary School of the Year in the Sunday Times Parent Power Guide 2025.

He said: "I am absolutely delighted to be joining St John's CE Primary School at such an exciting time.

"Becoming part of NWAT is a fantastic opportunity for the school. I am looking forward to working closely with the staff, pupils, and families to ensure every child thrives and achieves their very best. Together, we will build on the school's strengths and create a bright, inspiring future for the school."
