Hot cross buns are synonymous with Easter – the bun marks the end of the Christian season of Lent.

The cross represents the crucifixion of Jesus and the spices inside hot cross buns signify the spices used to embalm him at his burial.

Sandbach Nub News tried one of the Mandeville buns on sale at award-winning deli and grocers, Godfrey C Williams in The Square.

Holmes Chapel's Harry Styles worked at W Mandeville bakery in his youth while he was growing up in the village. There is a picture of him in the shop and the premises are part of the 'Harry Styles tour' which goes round the village as we revealed here

A spokeserson from Godfrey C Williams said: "They are made to a secret family recipe passed down over four generations, we don't think there's a better hot cross bun available."

And what was our verdict? "Very tasty with a lovely crunchy feel and a good dusting of sugar on the top. A real treat!"
