Three friends who bought the pub they drank are now the proud owners of a coveted CAMRA award.

The Midland Inn in Elworth has won the title South Cheshire CAMRA Winter pub of the year 2024/25 for its 'warm, cosy inviting atmosphere'.

And the trio - Barry McCreadie, Glynne Rowlinson and Doug Stevens - have been presented with the South Cheshire CAMRA Winter pub of the year 2024.

The three, who saved the pub from closure after buying it in 2019, have heaped praise on their loyal customer base who visit the pub for its friendly, homely atmosphere.

The owners of the pub, in New Street Elworth, which has occasional music and regular quiz nights, were presented with their award by Derek Davey, chair of CAMRA's South Cheshire branch this week.

Derek said: "The Midland Inn has a good strong following and is a great winter pub. We had a vote and it was unanamious that the Midland Inn was the winner," he said.

"Well done to the team there. It has a good, strong following and we wish them well."

One of the three owners, Glynne, whose wife Cecille works behind the bar said: "We couldn't be happier - we've reached a milestone. It's what we've been working towards. "

He added: "We would like to thank our customers and everyone who supports us."

Barry, the licensee, said previously: "We all used to drink in here and then came up with a plan to buy it. We didn't want to see it shut so we bought it between us.

"There have been a few bumps and swings along the way but we're delighted with what we've done and it's very rewarding. We get lots of compliments from our customers.

"It really is a great place to have a drink and relax. We've made a few improvements but bascially we've kept it as a nice loal pub which welcomes everyone and where you feel comfortable.

"Anyone can come in here for a drink. We pride ourselves on a warm, welcoming friendly atmosphere."

The pub holds regular quizzes donating over £2,100 to local charities.

Congratulations to The Midlands Inn and the team who run this warm, friendly pub!
