Three men have been arrested following reports of attempted thefts of vehicles.

On Monday 15 January, police received multiple reports of attempted thefts of Range Rovers.

The first was reported at 3.45pm and involved the attempted theft of a Range Rover from the car park at High Legh Garden Centre in Ditchfield Lane, High Legh.

The second report was received at around 4.20pm, relating to an attempted theft of a Range Rover from an address on Holmes Chapel Road, Over Peover, while a third report was received shortly before 4.35pm, from Mere Golf and Country Club in Chester Road, Mere.

A fourth report was made to police shortly after 4.35pm relating to the attempted theft of Range Rover from an address in Adams Hill, Knutsford.

During a majority of the incidents, a hole had been drilled through the boot of the Range Rover.

Multiple witnesses reported seeing a silver Volkswagen Golf in the vicinity.

At around 5pm officers spotted a vehicle matching the description on the M6 southbound.

Officers attempted to stop the car, but the driver failed to stop. Three occupants subsequently decamped from the vehicle at around 5.25pm near to junction 16, Crewe.

Three men, aged 25, 27, and 29, from Birmingham, were subsequently arrested and remain in custody at this time.

A further two incidents were reported to police on Tuesday 16 January and are believed to have taken place at some time during the afternoon the previous day. These attempted thefts of Range Rovers occurred in Parkway, Holmes Chapel, and Parkfield Road, Knutsford.

Officers investigating the series are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incidents or saw anything suspicious around the time of the attempted thefts to get in touch.

DC Gina Volp said: "We hope these arrests will provide some reassurance to members of the public that we are doing all we can to thoroughly investigate these attempted vehicle thefts.

"As part of this we would urge any witnesses or those with dashcam or CCTV footage to get in touch with us, or anyone who witnessed anything suspicious around the time of the incidents.

"The same goes for anyone who has footage of, or who witnessed, the suspects decamp from their vehicle on the M6."
