A group which looks after and develops the local woodland in Sandbach has had a boost – thanks to an environmentally-friendly business in the town.
The historic Godfrey C Williams & Son grocers in Market Square put a charity box on the counter instead of charging people 10p for a carrier bag.
And a bumper £230 has been raised from the carrier bag charity collection, which has been handed over to Sandbach Woodland and Wildlife Group.
Carol Williams from the award-winning grocers which has been in Sandbach for nearly 150 years said: "We have been doing this since the charge was brought in for carrier bags.
"Each time we choose a different charity and this time we wanted to help the local woodland and wildlife group.
"So many of our customers use the foot paths and areas which the group has worked on. It's good to see it going to help their work."
Jonathan Granger, chair of Sandbach Woodland and Wildlife Group (SWWG) said: "We're an environmentally friendly group and this donation is gratefully received.
"It will allow us to continue with our work and help build on what we've already achieved."
The SWWG was formed in 2008 to care for the environment in and around Sandbach making sure it is accessible for the whole community.
Amongst other things, the group has created, constructed and continues to maintain the footpaths in Brook Wood, St Mary's Dell, Dingle Wood and Filter Bed Wood.
