Sandbach's historic indoor market dating back to 1890 has three new-look units.

Mayor Councillor Laura Crane officially opened the new units today (Thursday) in the market hall.

And she revealed that the market hall is so popular there is sometimes a waiting list for new units.

"The market hall is what Sandbach, a market town, is all about," she said."

"So many towns are seeing a decline in their markets so it's good to see Sandbach is thriving."

Family-owned Burland Day Trips & Tours, Vintage Emporium and Kelly's Coven have all opened units in the market hall in the town centre.

All three said they were delighted to be opening units in the market hall with its steady flow of customers.

A spokesperson for Burland Day Trips & Tours said: "We've been in the market hall for a while but moving into a unit offers us a permanent location.

"Being at both ends of our pick-up route from Nantwich to Sandbach and vice versa, it offers passengers at both ends an opportunity to book in person."

Angie Hingston of Vintage Emporium and Kelly Clark from Kelly's Coven are also delighted with their new units.

"It's a great location. I've been in the market hall for a while but needed a bigger unit. When this one came up, I jumped at the chance."

Sandbach has held markets in the town since it was granted a royal charter in 1579 by Queen Elizabeth I.
