Travel advice issued following serious collision earlier today in Sandbach

Parents and carers of children at a Sandbach school are being warned to expect delays after a serious collision on the road leading to the school.

Sandbach School say although the incident involving two cars did not involve members of the school community there will be delays to transport.

Crewe Road from the roundabout in the centre to near the Park Lane junction was closed following the accident.

And police have advised the school, which has 1,500 students on its roll plus a further 300 in the sixth form, sthem that the road is not expected to be re-opened by the end of the school day.

A statement released by Sandbach School said: "As advised earlier, a serious incident has occurred on Crewe Road outside of the School. The incident does not involve members of the school community.

"The police are in attendance and do not expect the road to have re-opened by the end of the school day.

"The road and pavement between each of the school entrance/exits gates is cordoned off. "

They have issued the following travel arrangements:

Walking and Cycling

Students will be directed to the correct exit gate dependent on which way home they are travelling.

School Buses

Will collect as normal but are likely to be severely delayed.

Public Bus

The D&G public bus routes 37 and 38 will be unable to pick up from the front of school. Students will be directed to catch these buses from the Commons.

Parents will be able to access the main entrance gate and car park from the direction of Wheelock only. There is likely to be serious traffic congestion.
