Two out of three petrol stations near Sandbach were dry today

Motorists living in Sandbach were lucky as the Co-op Saxon Cross was one of only three petrol stations with fuel earlier today.

There were no queues waiting at around 2pm and no delays in filling up with fuel unlike scenes on Friday when traffic tailed back down the road.

Motorist, Alex Maddox, from Congleton said he was delighted to have filled up his car with fuel.

He said: "I have been very lucky. I'm on my way back from Crewe and it's the first petrol station I've pulled in at."

But motorists attempting to fill up at two other petrol stations nearby were not so lucky.

Arclid Garage ran out of fuel at 2.30 pm yesterday and was waiting for a delivery.

A sign saying "No Fuel" greeted motorists who pulled up on to the forecourt today (Tuesday).

Petrol station assistant, Chris Cooper, said there had been deliveries on Friday and Saturday and another at 7 am yesterday morning.

"Despite having a delivery early yesterday, we had run out by 2.30pm yesterday," he said.

"We are due a delivery tomorrow but I don't know what time."

The story was the same at Gateway Crewe Service Station on the edge of Haslington and Sandbach.

The pumps were taped off and the forecourt was empty. A spokesman told Sandbach Nub News: "We're expecting a delivery at 10pm tonight (Tuesday)."

A shortage of HGV drivers has caused issues with transporting fuel to forecourts and in reaction to this there has been mass panic buying up and down the country since late last week.
