A group set up to look after a Sandbach Park is remaining positive – despite vandals attacking the park.

The Friends of Elworth Park are holding another litter pick and tidy up session this weekend – just days after the park was vandalised.

Graffiti was painted over benches and litter bins and one of the metal gate leading into the children's play area was broken off.

But the Friends of Elworth Park said they remain buoyant and are forging ahead with further improvement plans helped by a resident stepping in to mend the metal gate.

Cllr Nicola Cook - "We will carry on with our work regardless."

Secretary of the Friends of Elworth Park and Elworth councillor, Nicola Cook said: "We are truly saddened that someone in our community chose to damage our much loved park.

"It is a fantastic space that residents all enjoy using whether it is to find a bit of peace on a busy day, or for kids to play football or play in the playground.

The community response to this damage has been fantastic, and truly shows that when a small minority go low then the vast majority go high, and makes us proud of our Elworth community."

Cllr Cook said: "Basically whoever was bouncing on it while it was swung snapped both the hinges off. "

The Friends say the gate has been taken away to be repaired, reported to ANSA and the police will also be made aware.

The group holds regular litter picks and one will be taking place this Saturday between 10 am and 12 noon.

Elworth Park is near Sandbach station and has picnic benches, a children's play area and a large grassed area.
