Members of Sandbach Clean Team did various jobs around the town while volunteers from the Friends of Sandbach Station (FOSS) have launched a new community garden, aptly named 'Victoria's Garden', on platform one.

Artist, Victoria Holland, who has done other work at the station, came up with a garden design and she was helped along on the day by volunteers, including Millie Dickinson (10), a pupil at Elworth Church of England Primary School.

Millie said: "I helped paint various bits including flowers and the bee. I had a great time."

FOSS chairman, John Scarrott, is delighted with the result. "It's a fantastic addition to the station and we're naming it after Victoria.

"She's such a talented woman and we're very grateful for all her hard work."

Elsewhere volunteers at nearby Elworth Park were busy painting the railings as part of yesterday's Big Help Out.

At the Church on Ettiley Heath volunteers spent time working on the community garden and enjoyed music, cake and gardening with bacon baps at lunchtime raising money for Ettiley Heath playing field.
