A group set up to help maintain Sandbach cemetery made a clean sweep at their launch event – thanks to the hardwork of volunteers and a Sandbach based business.

Workwear Nation, which has offices in Sandbach and Middlewich, has supplied hi-vis vests to the Friends of Sandbach Cemetery (FOSC) for the group to wear as they carry their duties out at the town's cemetery.

And the Cheshire Regiment nominated a group member to join the group and help out with the project, Sandbach resident David Slack.

The Friends of Sandbach Cemetery (FOSC) was set up after chair of Sandbach Partnership Keeley Todd saw a comment about residents being upset at the level of maintenance while visiting loved ones on Father's Day.

Sandbach Partnership then teamed up with members from the Save the Cemetery group to create the Friends of Sandbach Cemetery.

Keeley said: It's not just about the cemetery. It's about community and the volunteers. We want the experience to be positive one for all involved.

"The benefits to individual's mental well-being from being outdoors, working in a team, meeting new people, and giving back to the community are tremendous.

"We've all been impacted by COVID one way or another and this a great medicine to combat it. I like to think everyone who turned up and really enjoyed themselves on Saturday. I know I did."

FOSC committee is made up of 10 members that represent a wide community demographic.

The group will meet the second Saturday of each month but has penned in another session on Saturday 6th November as it is the 100th anniversary of the Royal British Legion and they are getting the memorial in the cemetery ready for Remembrance Sunday.

Sandbach Nub News has covered the fight to extend Sandbach cemetery which is running out of space several times.
