A Sandbach man, his son and friends are busy training for a three-day 'coast to coast' walk next month to raise money for Kenyan families.

Colin Dalton, his son Matt and others are walking nearly 90 miles – the equivalent of three marathons – from Wallsend to Solway Firth.

Dad-of-two Colin from Wheelock is the lead fundraiser of the North West based New Hope Support Group, a group of like-minded individuals who have dedicated time and effort to supporting a community based in Upland, Kenya.

Every year, Colin and other volunteers hold an annual music event in Sandbach for New Hope as we revealed here but have added the 'coast to coast' walk to this year's fundraising calendar.

"For many years, the group has run fundraisers for New Hope and the surrounding community, building classrooms, libraries and houses," said Colin.

"This year we're raising money to pay for some essentials. We want to raise enough to provide basics like blankets, plates, cups and cooking pots and most importantly food and formula milk for babies as the global cost of living crisis impacts."

He added: "The walk is a massive undertaking and thanks to Diane Llouisa, Freya Griffith, Mark Walmsley, Matt Dalton, Hugh Leydon, Ben Laxton and Nathan Mitchell who have all committed to the training and to raise these much-needed funds."

Members of the group are out in all weathers training for the epic walk from August 4th – 6th.

"We have previously completed difficult challenges such as an "Overnight Channel Swim" and the "The Three Peaks Challenge" but this will likely be our toughest to date," added Colin.

"There's no pressure to donate but even a small amount can go a long way so please feel free to give as much or as little as you would like."

The team has set up a JustGiving page for donations and are being sponsored by The Ganges curry house in Bradwall Road, Sandbach.
