Voters in the Elworth ward for Sandbach Town Council are going to the polls again on Thursday (December 12th).

Sandbach Town Council held a by-election for the Elworth ward in August this year when Colin Storey was voted in by the electorate receiving with 299 votes, 82 more than the next candidate.

However, due to an "administrative error" Colin never became a councillor and is now standing in a new by-election to be held this week.

This time there are five candidates fighting for one seat on Sandbach Town Council:

Richard Hovey, Independent

Jason Knight, Local Conservatives

Helen Merrick, Independent

Colin Storey, Labour Party

Will Taylor, Reform UK

The seat became available following the resignation of Kathryn Flavell who moved out of the area to be nearer family in Scotland earlier in the year as we revealed here.

Sandbach Town Council is made up of 20 councillors across four wards - Town Ward, Sandbach Heath and East Ward, Ettiley Heath and Wheelock Ward and Elworth Ward.

Councillors are elected by public vote every four years. Any vacancies occurring outside of the four yearly election may be filled by co-option or a by-election.
