Motorists on South Cheshire's roads weren't the only ones hit by Storm Gerrit today – a local supermarket was also plunged into darkness.

Sandbach's Waitrose store reopened at 3.40 pm today (Wednesday) after temporarily closing earlier in the day after a power failure.

Shoppers at the Flat Lane store were plunged into darkness this morning when the electricity suddenly went off but thankfully it's now back on.

A spokesperson from Waitrose's head office said earlier : "We were temporarily closed due to a power failure impacting the shop's lighting and tills. We're sorry for the inconvenience this caused shoppers earlier in the day."
