A primary school in Sandbach celebrated 50 years and took a trip back to the 1970s.

Wheelock Primary School enjoyed a two-day event organised by teacher Kim French involving everything from the 1970s.

The children and staff wore 70s inspired outfits and enjoyed activities throughout the two days to experience school life, music, food, dance, TV and film from around the time the school opened.

Activities included country dancing, making a pair of Elton John style glasses, Star Wars themed art and traditional playground games.

Wheelock Primary School's head teacher Sally Whitehead said: "This was a wonderful two days to celebrate the history of the school.

"We were especially delighted to welcome parents and many former pupils to the event who shared their own memories of being at the school."

Mrs Whitehead cut a special 50th birthday cake as the children sang happy birthday and a drone was used to capture the children and staff making a '50' on the school field.

A small exhibition of the children's work over the two days alongside photographic memories was also put on display in the school hall.
