Winterley brass band honours wartime sacrifices with VE Day commemoration

Members of Winterley Methodist Brass Band joined with members of the local community to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
As local communities across the UK came together, it provided an opportunity for people to pay tribute to the many people locally and nationally who made such huge sacrifices during World War II.

Winterley Methodist Brass Band was founded in 1938 by seven young men - most of them were teenagers who then served in H M Forces during the war.
"Two of the young men also served the nation in reserved occupations in Crewe Railway Works during those dark days," said a spokesperson.
Winterley band are keen to support local events, charities and community concerts. Anyone wanting to book them can contact Kim French, the secretary - [email protected].
