Members of the Royal British Legion and others including the world-famous Foden's Band, will be gathering tomorrow (Sunday) for an important service in Elworth.

A service of re-dedication is being held for Elworth War Memorial – 102 years after the important structure was unveiled to the public.

Members of the Foden's Band, ranked as one of the finest brass bands in the world, will be there to play hymns.

And assistant director of regional operations for the Royal British Legion and an Elworth town councillor, Nicola Cook, who is helping to organise the event, is urging as many people to come along and take part.

The memorial was first unveiled on May 16th, 1920 but due to the pandemic, the service is only now being held to re-dedicate the memorial.

Cllr Cook said: "A hundred and two years ago Elworth War Memorial was given to the community to remember all those men who fought at World War 1 and never came back.

"A hundred years later the re-dedication service reminds us that the memorial is not just a piece of history, but remembers those men who lived, worked and were part of families in Elworth, many of which still live here.

"Let's us tell their stories so that their service and sacrifice is never forgotten."

The service takes place at 3 pm tomorrow and all are invited to attend.
