World-famous Foden's Band are to headline a massive party in Sandbach to celebrate The Coronation of The King and The Queen Consort.

Sandbach Town Council revealed the plans at a meeting of its full council last night. (Wednesday)

The town is to have a big concert event at Sandbach Rugby Club in Bradwall Road as part of the 'party weekend'.

Plans are in the pipeline to have a giant screen to stage the day's events as well as a line-up of music which could include a piped band.

And the town is to be painted red, white and blue thanks to a business which has agreed to put up the bunting while another resident in the town has agreed to print items for the event at a discounted rate.

It was also revealed last night that smaller picnic-type events are to take place on the Monday of the Bank holiday weekend.

The Bank Holiday falls on Monday, May 8th following the Coronation on Saturday, May 6th.

The Cabinet office say they are hoping the country will come together to celebrate the big event.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said: "The Coronation of a new monarch is a unique moment for our country.

"In recognition of this historic occasion, I am pleased to announce an additional bank holiday for the whole United Kingdom next year.

"I look forward to seeing people come together to celebrate and pay tribute to King Charles III by taking part in local and national events across the country in his honour."

Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster Oliver Dowden said: "The Coronation combines the sacred and the solemn but it is also celebratory."

"This bank holiday will once again give people across the United Kingdom the opportunity to come together as families and communities to welcome His Majesty to the throne as we mark this important day in our nation's long history."
