Young Norwegian footballers get ready to take on Sandbach in a match with a difference

Young footballers in Sandbach are in for a match with a difference tomorrow (Saturday) when they take on a team from Norway.

Valerenga Football Club's under 14s team are in the UK for a tour and on Saturday (March 25th) they take on Sandbach United's Under 14 team at Hind Heath Road.

Sandbach United's Under 14 team manager, Gary Wood, said the team will get a warm welcome at Hind Heath Road where the match will be played on the main pitch with a 12 pm kick-off.

"They're on a tour in the UK and we're looking forward to welcoming them and playing the match," Gary told Sandbach Nub News.

"We'll be playing on the main pitch and we're hoping for a good turnout with fans. Come and give the lads some support.

"They're a good side and it'll be a learning curve for out team but we're looking forward to it."

Valerenga are based in the capital of Norway, Oslo and players ran lotteries and got financial support from their families to come to the UK.

They are travelling with 17 players and four adults.

Apart from the trip to Sandbach, the team is also visiting Bet 365 and Sir Stanley Matthews Sport Centre where they are attending a class about football anatomy and physiology.  

The young Norwegian team will also have a training sessions facilitated by Stoke Football Club.

A spokesperson for the team said: "The trip abroad is part of the campaign to motivate and inspirate the players to continue to play soccer in the following years when traditionally the dropout is significant."
