Hardworking volunteers at Sandbach rail station have notched up another award for their amazing work.

Friends of Sandbach Station (FOSS) have won the 'Best Staffed Station Award' - for the fourth time.

The volunteers, who meet once a month and sometimes in between, first won the award in 2014 then again in 2019, 2021 and now 2022.

FOSS (whose logo is shown above) were presented with the award at an event at the Grange Heath in Northwich by Brian Barnsley, deputy chief executive of Community Rail Network.

John Scarrott, FOSS chair, couldn't be prouder of his team, who recently completed new seating around a planter.

"We have some amazing volunteers and we are so grateful for all the hours of work they put in.

"We meet once a month but during the summer months, we have a watering rota too and meet in between if necessary."

Sandbach Nub News told here https://sandbach.nub.news/news/local-news/rail-travellers-can-now-sit-in-style-outside-thanks-to-clever-new-seating-installed-at-sandbach-station-174217 how FOSS spent two days installing the clever Woodblocx seating around a planter.

Funding for the clever seating same from a grant from Northern Rail ad Community Rail Network.

But Sandbach station wasn't the only lucky local winner at the awards evening.

Holmes Chapel station also picked up a much-deserved award - the 2022 Best Kept Station Award.

Tony Wright, who organises the volunteer group said: "The Volunteers and Friends of Holmes Chapel Railway Station and Viaduct were pleased as punch to receive this award."

Announcing the awards, Mark Barker, Chair of Cheshire Best Kept Stations said: "The awards evening is a celebration and a thank you for all the volunteers and community groups who do so much to brighten up our stations in Cheshire.

"You are all winners – whether or not you pick up an award … you deserve it.

"We can celebrate something to be truly proud of at so many of our Cheshire stations.

"We have seen some truly excellent work from volunteers and staff at stations right across Cheshire."
