Young team from Norway enjoy a match against Sandbach United's U14s during their whistle-stop tour

A young team of Norwegian footballers enjoyed a match against Sandbach United's Under 14s as part of their whistle- stop tour of the area.

Oslo-based Valerenga Football Club's under 14s team, who were in the UK for a tour took on Sandbach United's Under 14 team at Hind Heath Road.

Sadly, the Norwegian team lost 7 - 0 to Sandbach United's Under 14s but enjoyed their visit to the town and meeting local footballers.

Sandbach United's Under 14 team manager, Gary Wood, said: "Our opponents were very good technically but we were too strong for them. We hope they have enjoyed their time here."

Valerenga are based in the capital of Norway, Oslo and players ran lotteries and got financial support from their families to come to the UK. They travelled with 17 players and four adults.

Assistant coach, Ebbe Biorv-Lian (pictured below) said the team had enjoyed their visit and found it very interesting.

Apart from the trip to Sandbach, the team is also visited Bet 365 and Sir Stanley Matthews Sport Centre where they are attended a class about football anatomy and physiology.  

The young Norwegian team also had training sessions facilitated by Stoke Football Club.

A spokesperson for the team said: "The trip abroad was part of the campaign to motivate and inspire the players to continue to play soccer in the following years when traditionally the dropout is significant."
