Having fun ... this year's Salt Cup youngsters, organisers and Police and Crime Commission, John Dwyer

More than 150 schoolchildren took part in a feast of popular sports organised by Sandbach Police Station, 'The Salt Wars' named after the area's rich salt heritage.

Run in partnership with Premier League Kicks and Crewe Alexandra Football Club, the free event involving football, rounders and rugby saw youngsters aged between 10 and 16 from Sandbach, Middlewich, Holmes Chapel and the surrounding areas do battle for the Salt Wars Cup.

A school Covid co-ordinator is urging school students and others to ensure they continue to use lateral flow tests regularly and keeping checking for symptoms.

And she has thanked a team of local volunteers who have stepped in to be test operatives at the school where she works, Alsager School, as part of the regulatory return to school mass testing programme currently being carried out.

Radius Payment Solutions has its main base on Crewe Business Park

CREWE-BASED global business services company Radius Payment Solutions, which was once based in Arclid near Sandbach, is seeking to hire over 100 local people and has just announced plans to build its fourth office in the town which will create jobs for an estimated 300 more.

Already employer to a 700-strong workforce in Crewe alone, divided between its three buildings in Emperor Way and Herald Drive off Macon Way, Radius is designing its next office for Arden Square on land it has recently purchased.

Police in the Sandbach area have issued a warning about parking near road junctions after several vehicles were given tickets today.

Sandbach, Elworth & and Brereton Rural Police say an officer on foot patrol in the Elworth area this morning issued "a number" of parking notices to vehicles parked within 10 metres of a junction.
