Sandbach United look to complete a league double over their local rivals Alsager Town with their visit to Wood Park.

After a defeat at league leaders Stockport Town, Ramblers manager Declan Swan was eager to see his side bounce back in their final match of 2022 at home to Barnton.

Sandbach did just that, putting on a scintillating attacking display for fans looking for a Boxing Day football fix.

With a brace from George West and Kieran Alley capping a dominant 4-1 win for the Ramblers, they will look to continue that form into their first game of the New Year, as they visit fierce rivals Alsager Town.

Both West and Alley in particular will be eager to resume their form at Alsager, albeit for very different reasons.

Alley, newly turned 22 years old, will be celebrating having recently won the December Player of the Month award for the First Division South, after chipping in three goals and three assists, whilst also picking up a Man of the Match award too.

Having hit the ground running since his move from Cheadle Nomads, Alley is quickly becoming one of Swan's key men.

Meanwhile, West will be keen to mark his return to his old club with a Sandbach goal, as the forward left the Bullets last season to join their local rivals. This will be West's first return to Wood Park in Sandbach colours since the move.

Heading into the derby, Sandbach sit in 4th place, 13 places ahead of Alsager who lie above the relegation zone on goal difference, although they have two games in hand on 18th-placed Stafford Town.

The Bullets have struggled in recent games as well, picking up five losses in their last six games, with the only win coming against bottom club Rocester after a 94th minute winner from ex-Winsford striker Sam Madeley.

Alsager also crashed out of the Cheshire Senior Cup on 3rd January after losing 4-1 at home to Vauxhall Motors.

Form and league position certainly favours the Ramblers heading into the match, but local derbies are even less predictable than the already-unpredictable NWCFL season, so non-league enthusiasts will no doubt be treated to a high-quality game.
