Sandbach United's Under 11 team are celebrating - after winning the Mid Cheshire Youth League Cup trophy.

Following wins in the previous four rounds against teams from Barnton, Winsford, Frodsham and Northwich, the final saw Sandbach face Hurdsfield Panthers in the final yesterday (Saturday).

Hosted at the Hind Heath Road facility, the club pulled out all the stops to give both teams a great experience on the day, with the opportunity to use the club changing rooms and see their names featured in a bespoke match day programme.

The game itself was close - Sandbach had the edge at half time following a header from a corner but Hurdsfield came out strongly in the second half and equalised with only five minutes left on the clock.

This meant only one thing - penalties! Several nerve-wracking minutes later, victory was assured thanks to some cool heads from Sandbach's penalty-takers along with some excellent goalkeeping.

Celebrations commenced in style with a medal ceremony and the trophy they'd all been waiting for - a day to remember for our budding sports stars!

A spokesperson for the team said : "They played well and thoroughly deserve this win. We're so proud of them."
