Co-op Store manager, Colin Mason, is taking a leaf out of his own book – raising funds for his next challenge.

The adventure-loving retail boss is scaling new heights in 2024 doing the Sahara/Toubkal Co-op Trek for the Co-op's charity partner Barnardo's.

Colin, who took over the reins at Lawton Way Co-op in the summer, has set up a book and DVD stall to raise money for the Sahara/Toubkal Co-op Trek.

At the weekend, he held his first charity car boot sale in the car park of the Lawton Way Co-op to raise funds for Barnardo's.

Colin is an avid walker and hiker and has done many charity challenges in his time.

And on Saturday, car booters and customers helped him with the Sahara trek fundraising by supporting the sale.

"I'm always out walking which is my way of training for the trek. I lived in the Lake District which was great for walking.

"I walked recently on the Anglesey Coast as part of my training. It's mind over matter," said Colin.

Colin did the Everest Base camp challenge for the Co-op and is looking forward to the Sahara one.

"As a father myself it will be empowering to think I am completing this challenge to help support children and families across the country to give them a better life," he said.

Barnardo's, the UK's largest children's charity, is the Co-op's national charity partner and is a charity close to Colin's heart.

At the weekend, the pilot car boot raised around £30 but was a test to see how well-received it was by the local community.

Now Colin is planning to hold more car boots to help raise money and help the local community.

Co-op members can help support Co-op's national and local causes just by doing their shopping as well as getting discounts and offers.
