A-level students across Cheshire East have achieved impressive results that are above those seen pre pandemic in 2019.

This year sees the return of traditional A-level assessments following the Covid pandemic.

The students who sat their exams this year experienced significant disruption to their GCSE qualifications, for many, this will be their first experience of an external examination - making these results even more impressive.

1757 students from across the borough received their results – of these 81 per cent achieved grades A* to C which is above that seen in 2019 at 78 per cent.

The further breakdown of grades shows that the proportion of students achieving the highest grades A* to A was 30 per cent, which is above that achieved in 2019 of 24 per cent.

Councillor Kathryn Flavell, lead member for children and families at Cheshire East Council, said: "To have collectively achieved these very strong levels of performance is an absolute credit to the young people and everyone who has worked tirelessly to support them.

"I recognise the huge impact of Covid on the learning journey of sixth form students in both schools and colleges who have taken their examinations this year.

"I want to thank every student, their families and staff in all our schools and colleges for showing amazing resolve and resilience to overcome so many obstacles to accomplish these excellent results. I am so proud of all their achievements.

"I know that students have faced an anxious wait for these results, and I would like to reassure them that there is help available if they are undecided on what to next, including support for mental health and wellbeing.

"I would like to wish all our young people the very best for the future, whether they are continuing their studies into further or higher education, apprenticeships or taking their first steps into the workplace."
