Oyez, Oyez! Are you proud of Sandbach's heritage and would you like to be the town's next town crier?

Current town crier, Dennis Robinson, officially stepped down from the role at Sandbach Transport Festival and a competition to find his successor takes place shortly.

We told here how Mr Robinson has worn his elaborate red and gold coat, breeches and tricorne hat, a tradition dating back to the 18th century, for more than 40 years.

Mr Robinson was granted Freedom of the Town in 2016. A competition to find his successor will take place on Saturday, June 1st at Sandbach's Day of Dance.

The new appointment is to be chosen by the Chief Officer in consultation with the mayor.

A spokesperson for Sandbach Town Council said: "If you or any friends/family are interested in this prestigious post, representing your town, for an application form please pop into the Town Hall or Enterprise Centre in Wesley Avenue and email [email protected] with any queries."
