A main road leading through Sandbach was closed earlier due to a "large fuel spill".

At least one motorist told on social media earlier today (Tuesday) how they had skidded on the A534 going though Sandbach.

Cheshire East Council closed the road in both directions from the A534 at Arclid to the A533 Elworth/A534 to Wheelock for a while but then reopened it after cleaning work had been done.

A message on social media said: "Please avoid the area where possible and plan your journey ahead."

One motorist said: "Drive carefully on the roundabout at junction 17 coming from Congleton I think there must have been an oil or fuel spillage.

"I've just skidded. Does also look like there is a trail down Congleton Road and Middlewich Road although may not be linked. It looked like the garage were also putting spillage granules on the forecourt."
