Clean it, scrunch it and Co-op it' in Sandbach

Recycling your soft plastics in Sandbach couldn't be easier – just collect them up and go along to Middlewich Road Co-op!

Until now, householders in the town had to throw away items such as plastic film lids on yoghurt pots, soft fruit punnets, plastic crisp packets, pasta bags and chocolate or biscuit wrappers in their black bin.

But now they have an alternative – keeping them separately and then popping along to the Middlewich Road store and putting them in a special recycling unit under the banner 'Clean it, scrunch it and Co-op it'.

The Co-op has launched soft plastic units in 1,500 of its stores and the Middlewich Road one is the first of the town's Co-op stores to get one. Eventually the units will be rolled out to other Co-op stores.

And it doesn't matter where shoppers bought the soft plastics from – they can just pop them into the unit to do their bit for the environment.

I tried this for a week, collecting my soft plastics in a separate bag and then going to the Middlewich Road store to recycle them and it was so easy!

I kept a separate bag under the sink with all my soft plastics in then dropped them off in one go at the Co-op.

Co-op Member Pioneer for Sandbach Arnie Laing agrees too that the soft plastic initiative couldn't be easier.

He said: "It's easy to use and is a great addition to recycling in the town."
