A developer at the centre of a new Sandbach housing estate which residents say has been left unfinished has revealed improvements it has made and pledged that more are on the way.

Residents living on the Broadmeadow estate off Abbey Road inElworth have slammed developers for leaving unfinished paths and roads which they say are dangerous - not only to motorists but also to anyone walking through the estate.

They said the developers, Clarion, had left the roads and footpaths on Broadmeadow Park in a "terrible" state despite many homeowners living on the estate for over two years.

One resident, retired university lecturer, Dr Fred Murphy, said he has had two punctures in tyres on his car and he's worried about pedestrians using the footpaths tripping over on the unmade up surfaces.

The road signs had previously been left in a pile on one side of the housing estate.

Developers, Clarion Housing, has since put up road signs after the Nub News story appeared here and says more work is on the way.

A Clarion Housing spokesperson said: "We remain committed to maintaining and improving our communities. The play area has been returfed and will remain closed until the grass has properly bedded in, subject to weather conditions.

"We have also installed new street signs, repaired street lighting, and carried out temporary pothole repairs. Further road repairs have been instructed and will be completed in the coming weeks."

But residents say they are still not happy about the timescale of the work being done.

Dr Murphy, who lives in Merelake Way, earlier claimed there was a lack of communication from the developers.

"There is a significant lack of communication and we are left to live on an unfinished estate full of holes and dangerous paths," he said previously.

He added recently: "They have laid turf on waterlogged ground when it clearly needed drainage. The couple of road signs and other pot holes are token gestures and we still do not have any deadlines for completion."

A Clarion spokesperson said: "We understand residents' concerns and are committed to resolving the outstanding road and footpath works at Broadmeadow Park as quickly and safely as possible.

"Maintenance work has already been undertaken to improve road conditions and lighting, and we are working closely with specialist contractors and relevant authorities to address and resolve the drainage situation.

Cheshire East councillor for the Elworth ward which the development falls into, Cllr Nicola Cook previously said: "When residents buy or rent a house, they don't just live in bricks and mortar, they live in a space that they want to call a home.

"This means that they live in a community which has well maintained green spaces, where the roads feel safe, and they can look forward to developing links with friends, family and neighbours.

"Sadly residents are having to wait far too long for the estate to be completed. Despite residents' best efforts there really isn't a clear plan as to how these things are going to be addressed, and communication with householders has not been good enough."
