A former Sandbach cricket player who now plays for England will find put his fate tonight (Tuesday) after he was sent off in a match with Argentina.

Tom Curry, who played for Elworth Cricket Club in his youth but now plays for Sale Sharks, was sent off in England's 27 -10 victory over Argentina in Marseilles.

He received a yellow card initially which was upgraded to a red, within three minutes of England's Rugby World Cup getting under way following a challenge which saw a clash of heads with another player.

He is due to appear before a World Rugby Committee tonight.

Elworth Cricket Club has fond memories of Tom and his brother Ben.

Former chairman, Ron Davies presented Tom Curry with Elworth CC Junior Player of the Year in 2014 when he was chairman.

He previously joked: "I'd like to think I helped propel young Curry (T) to his current stratospheric heights.

"Had I known then what we know now, I wouldn't have washed that hand for a month!"

Sandbach Nub News told here how Tom Curry led England out on to the pitch as captain of England's rugby team in the Six Nations in 2022.
