Victorious football fans painted the town red last night as they celebrated England's big win against Germany in the Euro 2020.

Supporters packed pubs and sporting venues around the town to watch the Three Lions beat Germany 2 – 0 to put them through to the quarter-finals on Saturday.

The win was England's first in a knockout tie over Germany since the 1966 World Cup and there were plenty of Sandbach fans in town to see it.

Sandbach residents, Nigel Bown and Raj Sethi joined friends at The Military Arms on Congleton Road to see the match.

Nigel said: "It was a well-deserved victory and a good match. England has obviously set out a game plan to win the tournament.

Friend Raj said: "It was a very cautious first half but the substitutes changed the game."

Across town, Cam Roberston (22), took a half day's holiday from his job as a barber at Sisu salon in George's Walk to join friends at The Lion pub to watch the match.

Cam said: "It was a fantastic match. It was a close start in the first half but gradual building up in the second half."

All over Sandbach, fans gathered together either at home or in sporting venues to watch the game.

Friends Jake Tew, Kieran Anderson, Fred Dobberson and David Hanson, watched the match together at Sandbach Rugby Club and then walked into town afterwards to continue the celebrations. "It was a fantastic game," said Jake.
