Expansion at Holme Chapel pharmaceutical company will create 150 jobs

A pharmaceutical company plans to create an extra 150 new jobs by extending its existing manufacturing facility so it can make climate-friendly inhalers.
Bespak, at Holmes Chapel, specialises in inhaled and nasal drugs for conditions such as asthma.
It has applied to Cheshire East Council for permission to expand on to a 1.98-hectare area of its site to the west of the existing manufacturing building and to the east of London Road.
A planning statement submitted by Avison Young for the applicant states: "Bespak is proposing to expand its footprint with the addition of two new manufacturing lines which will allow the site to transition to climate-friendly inhalers using the next-generation 'greener' propellant.
"This propellant has a near-zero global warming potential compared to the propellants that are currently used, which are classed as greenhouse gases.
"The new facility will enable Bespak to service the increasing demand from global pharmaceutical companies developing more sustainable inhalers.
"Overall, the proposed scheme will significantly enhance the site's capabilities for the advanced manufacturing, packaging, and distribution of respiratory medical devices, specifically inhalers."
The company says the expansion will create about 150 new jobs at the Holmes Chapel site.
It will also generate construction jobs during development and associated economic investment from build costs.
The planning statement says a comprehensive landscaping scheme will improve the on-site environment for existing and future employees at Bespak
It adds: "Overall, the proposal will clearly bring a multitude of economic, environmental and social benefits and as such should be positively considered in accordance with the principle in favour of sustainable development."
The application, number 25/3464/FUL, can be viewed on the planning portal on Cheshire East Council's website.
The last date for submitting comments is October 22.
