A pub near Sandbach has been named 'Pub of the Year' 2024 by the Macclesfield and East Cheshire CAMRA.

But it's not the first award The Bull's Head at Smallwood has won – last year it won `Pub of the Season Autumn 2023' by the Macclesfield and East Cheshire CAMRA.

And pub owners Ian Evans and his wife Sharon are throwing a music event and BBQ on June 1st when their award will officially be presented.

Ian and his wife took over the village pub 24 years ago and are delighted with the news.

"We're passionate about what we do. We rotate our beers, seeking out different brewers," he said.

"We always have a good selection from local beers to others from Somerset and Scotland. We love what we do."

And it's something of a family affair at the Bull's Head for Ian's son Jake and his wife Melissa also work at the pub.

"The award is for us all because we're very much a team. It's family-run and we're proud of what we do," added Ian.

A spokesperson from Macclesfield and East Cheshire CAMRA said: "It is a pub of many characters, having a large dining room on the left-hand side, an area very much like traditional village pub in the centre and a conservatory to the right along with another one to the rear.

"Although it is a big pub, it does not feel like one. The bar features four real ales of diverse origin and often from the nearby Merlin Brewery in Arclid."
