The funeral of a legendary Sandbach bell ringer, Doreen Edwards, will be held tomorrow (Tuesday) at the town's St Mary's Church where she tolled the bells until she was aged 92.

Doreen, 99, was known by many in the town by her former role as a school teacher while others knew her for her favourite past-time – campanology.

Bells are due to be rung from around 10.30 am until 11.30 am tomorrow (Tuesday) as a celebration of her life.

The bells were rung half muffled on the day Doreen died – once for every year of her 99 years of life.

The former school teacher had travelled all over the country tolling the bells at over 1,000 towers and had passed on many of her skills to others at St Mary's.

The funeral service takes place at 11.30 am followed by cremation in Crewe. Family are travelling from all over the country as well as France for the occasion.
