Scaffolding is still up at Sandbach's historic Swan & Chequers pub but the long-awaited re-opening of the famous town centre pub looks much closer.

The interior of the building in Hightown looks finished and is complete with bar fittings and furniture and signs have gone up on the windows and outside of the building.

The courtyard area at the back now has impressive artwork and fixtures and fittings and the gate to the outside area has ironwork.

Signage on the windows at the front says 'established 1893' while the courtyard, like other parts of the pub, has drawings of swans on wall, paying homage to the pub's name.

Owner, Robinsons Brewery, has not released any new information but it told Sandbach Nub News at the beginning of the revamp: "A new catering kitchen is being installed and there will be full refurbishment of trading areas.

"Design plans are to create a town centre bar that appeals to all demographics.

"The total venue is going to have a capacity of 180 with areas for live entertainment."

We told here the pub would be influenced by the town and pub's historic links to the Houses of Parliament.

Sandbach Nub News can't wait to have a guided tour of the new pub and take a proper look inside. Watch this space!
