Calling all would-be campanologists – would you like to join an historic church's bell tower and learn the art of bell ringing?

St Mary's Church in Sandbach is looking for new bell ringers to join their talented team.

Tower captain, Steve Stoker, says not only would you be keeping the tradition going, it's also an opportunity to learn a new skill.

He said: "Due to various reasons, we no longer have enough ringers to ring each week.

"We therefore urgently need to recruit and train some new people to join the band. As well as supporting ringing for Sunday services, it is also an enjoyable hobby.

"It keeps both your mind and your body mentally and physically fit and it's also a social activity."

Not only that says Steve, you also get the chance to visit interesting places such as parish churches, historic cathedrals and even places abroad.

Volunteers will receive training, intensively for a short period of time.

"Once you're up and running, Sunday mornings and a couple of hours evening practice a week is all that is needed," says Steve.

"It's open to any age, ideally from 12 upwards and you don't have to be strong or exceptionally fit," he said.

St Mary's bell ringers took part in the celebration for the new King and the proclamation serve by the Mayor or Sandbach.
