Pupils in Kenya are set to get top-class lessons – thanks to kind-hearted sixth-formers at Sandbach School.

So impressed was the head boy and head girl team at Sandbach School with a presentation on the New Hope Support Group in Kenya, that students decided to raise money to fund a teacher.

Colin Dalton, lead fundraiser of the North West-based New Hope Support Group, went to the Crewe Road School to give the presentation on the project.

Emma Bostan, a charity lead on the head boy and girl team said: "We recently had a visit and presentation from Colin Dalton, who regularly fundraises for the charity.

"This inspired us to have a big focus on raising money for this great cause across the academic year.

"The idea that we can fund a teacher is really exciting and we are looking forward to seeing what a difference the funds can make."

The New Hope Support Group, a major project to help families in Upland, Kenya, has already raised thousands of pounds since it was formed.

This weekend sees one of their biggest fundraising events, an 80s night with a live band held at Sandbach School.

Colin Dalton from Wheelock, said he was delighted that the students had decided to fund a teacher, which will cost around £2,000 to achieve.

"The school has been fantastic supporters of the project for many years," he said.

"It will make such a difference to these children in Kenya and we look forward to working with the head boy and head girl team."

Sandbach Nub News told here how Colin and his family and colleagues have brought new hope to families in Kenya following a recent visit.

And there's still chance to make a difference to the project by supporting Saturday's (October 7th) event at Sandbach School. Tickets for the 80s night cost £12.50 and can be bought here
