A care home providing round-the-clock support for adults with physical and learning disabilities says a proposed large residential development on its doorstep could impact the health and wellbeing of its residents.

Bloor Homes wants to build 325 homes on land in the open countryside at Sandbach Heath.

The development, which includes a community park, is earmarked for 19.28 hectares of open countryside/agricultural land between Manor Road and the A533, The Hill.

The site is close to Hill House, which is run by Leonard Cheshire Disability, and provides care and support for 24 adults with a diverse range of disabilities and conditions, including learning disabilities, physical disabilities, acquired brain injuries, autism and multiple sclerosis.

A planning document submitted to Cheshire East Council on behalf of Bloor Homes states: "The amenity, privacy and outlook of the residents of the Leonard Cheshire, have been taken into consideration through the design evolution of the masterplan.

"In particular, new homes are not proposed to be located in and around the area of the Leonard Cheshire.

"Instead, in this area, a significant area of public open space is proposed which local people and residents of the care home will be able to access."

But staff at the home believe the development would have a significant impact on its residents and have objected to the application.

A letter sent on behalf of the care home states: "The previous application was refused.

"Though there have been changes adjacent to Hill House on two sides to improve the environmental area, there are still two sides of the property which will be greatly affected, notwithstanding the fact that the new environmental area may become the location of anti-social behaviour, which is not the current situation with agricultural land."

And it adds: "The resulting traffic problems at peak times will directly affect access to and from Hill House, which will directly impact upon the residents who require an increased number of medical appointments, as well as deliveries, visitors, volunteers, shift changes etc."
