Sandbach and Alsager's MP is on a mission to stop sewage dumps.

Last week, Sarah Russell, whose Congleton constituency includes both towns, took representatives from United Utilities on a tour of the constituency.

They visited various sites icluding those in Alsager, Sandbach and Holmes Chapel, where there has been 'excessive' amounts of sewage dumped in rivers and streams.

Mrs Russell said: "Across the constituency, there is far too much sewage in our rivers and streams.

"I've spoken to countless constituents about their difficulties with this, and see it myself in each town."

During the visit on Tuesday, September 23, Mrs Russell and United Utilities visited sites in Alsager, Holmes Chapel, and Sandbach.

Mrs Russell spoke with the water company about mains renewals, water re-use, their work on storm overflows and the upgrades they are making to their treatment works.

She said: "They told me that they're going to be spending several billion pounds over the next few years on improving their infrastructure and upgrading sewage treatment plants.

"I want to make sure that our area gets its fair share of that investment, and I'll keep working for you to make sure that it does."
