Partners, Danny Shepley and Shannon Devanney, are the new faces behind the bar at Sandbach's Rookery Tavern which recently reopened.

The couple are into their second week opening the doors of the quaint pub in Elton Road, Ettiley, not far from the Canal Fields estate and other housing.

They used to run a pub in Preston, The Pleasant Retreat, but say they were attracted to the friendly atmosphere of the local area and have been warmly welcomed by the local community.

"We've had a great response since opening and were very busy at the weekend. People have said how it's great to see the pub back open again," said Danny.

"We're planning to introduce lots of new things and have spruced up the inside and outside since we came here. We've painted the benches outside and seating inside has been refurbished.

"We're launching weekly bingo every Tuesday, a quiz night on Thursday and card games on Sunday. It's a great area and we've met lots of lovely people here already.

"There's a real community atmosphere and a great sense of belonging. We're looking forward to the future."

And it's not just entertainment that Danny and Shannon are putting on the menu - they will also be serving food in the not too distant future.

"We'll be doing pub food in a couple of months and sandwiches etc and tea and coffee so people can pop in. We are open from 11 am until 11 pm and Friday and Saturday 11 am until midnight," said Danny.

Sandbach Nub News told here in June how Star Pubs was looking for a landlord.

The Rookery Tavern closed in October 2022 after live-in manager, Jess Scarlett, who ran the premises with partner, Alvin Khumalo, decided she could no longer carry on.

A combination of the price of energy bills and a "dramatic" reduction in customers were cited as the reasons for closing as we revealed here
